About Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)

As you age, your skin develops wrinkles, blemishes, scars, and other telltale imperfections. Luminary MD in Irvine, California, offers several treatments using platelet-rich plasma (PRP) to restore your youthful glow with proteins from your own body. If you'd like to achieve a younger look without surgery or fillers, call or schedule a consultation online with Robert Milanes, MD, to find out more about PRP treatments today.

What is PRP?

Platelet-rich plasma, or PRP, is derived from your own blood. Platelets are the component of your blood that allows it to clot and heal your wounds, and they’re derived and concentrated to create PRP.

PRP contains growth factors that promote regeneration and youthfulness when applied to your skin. It can also promote hair growth in bald spots. If you have injuries, PRP helps to speed up the healing process.

What can PRP Treat?

PRP can treat a variety of conditions and unwanted features, most of which come with age. These include:

  • Wrinkles and lines
  • Hair Loss
  • Scars
  • Sun damage
  • Urinary incontinence
  • Vaginal dryness
  • Stretch marks
  • Erectile Dysfunction

During an initial consultation, Dr. Milanes assesses your goals, needs, and habits to determine if PRP treatments are your best option. Then, he works with you to choose which treatment can be most effective for you.

What treatment can I get using PRP?

Luminary MD offers several treatments that use PRP to achieve optimal results. You can choose among the following treatments: Microneedling, Facial Rejuvenation, Hair Loss Injections, or Sexual Health.

What is PRFM?

PRFM stands for Platelet-rich fibrin matrix (PRFM) which is derived from PRP then Calcium is added to it converting it to PRFM. When PRP is converted into PRFM, it becomes a long acting version of it. This means that your hair follicles or any target area being injected gets a longer exposure to the growth factors thus reaping the benefits longer.

How is PRFM different from PRP?

Longer Life: Because of the longer life, the treatment areas are exposed to the growth factors for much longer. When PRP is injected, the growth factors peak at 12 hours and the product dissolves in 24 hours. With PRFM, the growth factors peak at 72 hrs, and the product dissolves in 7 days. This is like taking an injection for a medication weekly vs having to take it daily.
